It’s a no-brainer that loyal Samsung fans have September 4th penciled down in their diaries for quite some time, which is the rumored Galaxy Note 3 release date. We are getting to that time of the year when we are about to see product announcement and launch events happening from a number of large players in the technology scene, with Samsung being one of the biggest. It’s widely expected that the South Korean electronics giant will introduce us to the third-generation Galaxy Note on the 4th of September but, like a lot of others, it’s the potential specifications of the purported device that has whet our appetites.
Samsung’s original Galaxy Note managed to find itself in a class of its own when it was first launched. Beyond the scale of what we know as a smartphone, but not quite big enough to be classed as a tablet, the Galaxy was given the "phablet" moniker and has managed to attract a lot of admirers since, both in its original form and the currently available second-generation variant. The Galaxy Note 3 will be an important part of Samsung’s year, and although we don’t yet know the full technical specifications of the device, it looks like individual leaks are pointing to a significant upgrade.
According to sources who claim to have hands-on experience with engineering samples of the device; the Galaxy Note 3 will ship with an internal 3,450mAh battery cell that will provide extended up-time to users. The device is undoubtedly going to ship with a large, power-draining display, so a new battery with increased capacity makes perfect sense, and will be a welcome addition to the hardware. If true, the new battery is a drastic improvement on the cell that shipped with the original Note and represents an 11% increase on the second-generation model.
In addition to the improved battery life, the Note 3 is also expected to ship with Android 4.3 pre-installed. For a device that is to be announced next month, and set for a release later this year, we wouldn’t really expect Samsung to ship with anything other than Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, but we’ve been blindsided in the past, so it’s always reassuring to see confirming reports. Samsung will be hoping that the Note 3 will capture the attention of existing Note users and also work on pulling in a new audience. With the improved battery – the largest Samsung has ever included in a mobile device – the signs all look good.
