Ever wanted a Galaxy Note tablet that’s a little smaller than the 10.1 offering that’s currently on sale? Want to take advantage of the S Pen but the Galaxy Note smartphone just a little too small? You may be in luck.
Not content with already having two devices bearing the Galaxy Note moniker, Samsung is reportedly set to bring a third to market, according to SamMobile.
With a 5.5-inch smartphone and a 10.1-inch tablet already offering plenty of choice for would-be buyers, Samsung is apparently ready to release a new Galaxy Note device, one which will fill the gap created by one smaller and one larger device. If the claims are to be believed, the next Galaxy Note device is likely to be an 8-inch tablet powered by Android 4.2.
According to the report, the Samsung GT-N5100 that has been working its way through various regulatory bodies is actually this mystery 8-inch Galaxy Note. There is no word on what CPU is likely to be at the heart of the device, but we know pretty much everything else.
Memory-wise, you’re looking at 2GB of RAM with 16GB and 32GB storage options. There are the usual array of cameras front and back, with 1280×800 Super Clear LCD Display weighing in at 8-inches across its diagonal. As you would expect, the battery is a decent 4,600mAh, according to the claims.
Samsung is obviously playing its cards very close to its chest currently, but it is believed that the new tablet could well put in an appearance as soon as this year’s Mobile World Congress in Spain next month. Fingers crossed we get to learn more then.
The current big players in the 8-inch arena are the Amazon Kindle Fire HD, and the Google/ASUS Nexus 7. Samsung may be late to the mini-tablet party this time around, but they do have experience in the arena already. We wouldn’t bet against Samsung any time, let along in a market it already knows. We’ll be interested to see what the possible 8-inch Note looks like, as and when it is actually announced. Until then, we’ll just have to make do with the leaks!
