With Google having recently showcased Android Wear, a smartwatch specific flavor of its famed mobile operating system, it is widely presumed that Apple will follow suit and build its own competitor. Even though, earlier on this year, it was reckoned that Apple may drop the so-called iWatch alongside the iPhone 6, it has long since been suspected that the wearable would in fact be delayed until the holiday season, but in an interesting twist, it appears that the also-delayed 5.5-inch iPhone 6 may be joining it.
Keeping up with the next-gen iPhone rumor mill can be tricky task, particularly given how quickly things can shift in one direction or another. For a while, it was also suggested that Apple would endeavor to roll out a 16 GB model of the 5.5-inch iPhone alongside the 4.7-inch option in September, with those in search of more storage being made to wait until the manufacturing process was hitting the numbers properly.
But now, it seems that the 5.5-inch edition won’t even hit mass production until late September – the purported period for the 4.7-inch model’s retail release – and as such, you’re almost certainly going to have to wait it out if you want the more sizeable iPhone with all the bells and whistles associated.
As well as alluding to a December release for Apple’s inaugural “phablet,” supply chain sources of perpetual leaker GforGames suggest that the iWatch will also arrive in December, which seems a fairly strange decision that could see these new products overlap one another.
After all, it’s plausible that many consumers may want to purchase an iWatch and a 5.5-inch iPhone 6, but if they release at the same time, this won’t be possible for many, especially considering the time of year. It would, in fact, make a lot more sense for Apple to try and get either one of these two products out in November, and with the iPad upgrades expected to arrive in October, everything would be spaced out rather nicely.
Still, with precious little evidence of the iWatch so far, here’s to hoping that Apple manages to get everything ready for this side of the new year, which would allow us to witness yet another fascinating battle between Apple and Google through 2015.
