If you were overtaken with a bout of jealousy when Huawei announced the Honor 8 for the Chinese market last month, then prepare yourselves for a little bit of good news. It’s now been officially announced that the Honor 8, which features high-end specifications with a middle-of-the-road price tag, will not be uniquely available in China, as it has now been confirmed for launch in the United States as well.
Those who loved what the Huawei P9 had to offer, but didn’t like the cost of the hardware, then the Honor 8 will likely have high appeal. When the device ships, consumers will find themselves witnessing a stunning, glass-backed piece of kit that definitely looks like it should cost way more than it does. But, as they say, looks aren’t everything, and in the case of smartphones it really comes down to the internal specification and how the device actually performs in the real-world.
In the case of the Honor 8, consumers will be getting a 5.2-inch Full HD display packing a 423 ppi density, as well as an innovative dual-lens camera system at 12MP that has been pulled right from the Huawei P9. That new camera system is accompanied by an 8MP front offering for those that love nothing more than slapping a Snapchat filter on and capturing selfies to be shared with the world.
There’s also a dual-action fingerprint sensor on the rear that not only provides biometric detection for authentication and verification purposes, but that also doubles up as a quick action button for certain functions. To provide the device with its power, Huawei has bundled in an octa-core Kirin 950 processor with an accompanying 4GB of RAM, and 32GB of onboard storage which can be further expanded with a 256GB microSD card. When put together with the efficiency of Android 6.0 Marshmallow, that should all account for a highly pleasurable and fluid experience.
There’s a 3000mAh battery to keep the phone up and running and it also supports fast charging through the USB-C port. More so, there’s an IR blaster and Smart Control 4.0 supporting codes as well for over 230,000 products from around 5,800 plus brands.
Having those specifications at the offered price is undeniably going to appeal to consumers looking for a new device in China and the United States, but it’s likely to be the dual-lens camera system and the innovative use of the fingerprint sensor that actually really markets this device as a contender.
Interested individuals in the U.S. are able to opt for the device finished in either Sapphire Blue, Pearl White, or Midnight Black color, with prices starting at just $399.99 for the 32GB option and $449.99 for the 64GB variant.
The phone is available to pre-order right now through till September 3, and it also gets you a $50 gift card for pre-ordering.
