If you’re of a mathematical persuasion then you will no doubt already be aware that today is Pi Day, and in order to mark that occasion, the folks over at the Raspberry Pi Foundation have been able to get a new version of their mini and super useful computer out of the door.
Enter the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+, also referred to as Raspberry Pi 3B+.
The new hardware has a similar size and shape to the existing Raspberry Pi 2 Model B and Raspberry Pi 3 Model B, meaning you can expect something around the size of a deck of cards when yours arrives.
The key difference is under the hood though, with the new device packing a 640-bit quad core CPU that is clocked at 1.4GHz. There’s also dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz 802.11ac WiFi built in alongside Bluetooth 4.2/BLE support. Add in a hardware Ethernet port with 300Mbps maximum throughput and you have a device capable of network speeds of three times that of the Model B.
Rounding out the specifications we have a full size HDMI port, no fewer than four USB 2.0 ports and a microSD card slot for storage of data and the operating system. There’s also support for Power over Ethernet, which should help with getting these things into all those hard to reach places. If you don’t have one of these in every corner of your home then now you have no excuse not to do so.
Did we mention the CSI and DSI port for connecting Raspberry Pi camera and touchscreen displays? It’s got those as well. One thing is for sure – you will not be short of connectivity options here.
The new and updated Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ is available to order from official Raspberry Pi partners and the foundation’s own website.
