Apple refreshed its base model iPad and the Apple TV 4K streaming box yesterday and we continue to learn more about the products ahead of their going on sale.
We don’t yet have the devices in hand, but we already know that they both have more RAM than ever before.
While both the 9th-gen iPad and previous Apple TV 4K both had 3GB of RAM, MacRumors now reports that the updated models benefit from having an additional 1GB of RAM each. That means that they both ship with 4GB of RAM as standard for the first time.
The news comes after MacRumors and @AppleSWUpdates found references to the new models of iPad and Apple TV 4K in the recently released Xcode 14.1 Release Candidate. That’s a method that has previously confirmed the amount of RAM in other products as well, so we can take it as read that this is correct.
Other improvements in the new products include an Apple A14 Bionic in the new iPad and an A15 Bionic in the Apple TV 4K, a chip that should make gaming on the device better than ever. The additional RAM won’t hurt in that regard, while the base Apple TV 4K now also packs in 64GB of storage as well.
Apple announced both products yesterday, alongside a refreshed iPad Pro that comes with at least 8GB of RAM as well as the M2 chip inside.
