Apple has released a new support document that explains that a new warning symbol could appear on 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pros with Liquid Retina Displays to warn of overheating.
The same alert can appear on the Pro Display XDR.
Apple says that the alert will appear when the display is too warm and that it will enter low power mode to limit the amount of display brightness being offered. Overheating could happen in hot rooms or when bright content has been displayed for too long.
Apple says that there are a few things people can do should they see the new warning message.
If this happens, try the following:
- On MacBook Pro with Liquid Retina XDR display, quit any apps that could be consuming significant system resources.
- Use the Apple XDR Display or Pro Display XDR reference mode unless your current workflow requires a specific reference mode.
- Lower the ambient temperature of the room.
- Close or hide any windows with HDR content.
- Choose Apple menu > Sleep to put your Mac to sleep. Let your display cool down for 5-10 minutes, then press any key on the keyboard to wake your Mac.
Apple also says that those who are continuing to experience the issue should ensure that the ambient temperature is less than 77° F.
