Ben Geskin is a name that many of you will be familiar with. He has a history of being one of the first to put together a render or three based on unannounced phones, the iPhone in particular. And yesterday he set about a series of tweets all about the 2020 iPhones.
According to the tweets – which may or may not have a basis in reality – we can expect the 2020 iPhones to include 5G. That’s because their antenna lines are going to be thicker than usual. They’re also giving to be made out of glass, ceramic, or sapphire rather than the standard plastic, at least, according to Geskin.
Another tweet suggested that Apple’s ultimate aim is to be able to ditch the Lightning port. That’s no huge surprise, but rather than making the switch to USB-C, Geskin believes Apple would rather go completely wireless.
That would be made possible by using more speedy wireless charging and offering fast wireless data transfer via ultra-wideband, or UWB. That’s a chip that’s built into the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro and is expected to power the unannounced Apple tag accessories, too.
While Geskin does have a reasonable history for getting these kinds of things right, I’m not going to count any chickens until we see iPhone-shaped eggs. But I do like the idea of a completely cable-free iPhone!
