DigiTimes has posted a number of reports pertaining to Apple, all of which claim a few different things relating to what we could see the company do in the coming months. The iPhone, AirPods, iPads, and the Apple Watch were all featured in the reports.
Starting out with the iPhone, DigiTimes has Apple moving to a 7nm process for the A13 chip that will be used in 2019’s releases, with TSMC again being the exclusive manufacturer of the parts. The publication mentions a new Apple Watch slated for a 2019 release but without offering any additional information. It also claims that new AirPods and new iPads will arrive in the first half of this year, which ties in well with other reports.
Specifically, AirPods are said to be getting a refresh for the first time this year, and while DigiTimes simply believes that it will be a significant update, MySmartPrice appears to have a little further information to share. In that report, it’s claimed that new AirPods with improved bass response will ship this year, with a new glass construction apparently set to make them less prone to slipping when inserted into an ear.
That’s said to be similar to the frosted glass used for the rear panel on the Google Pixel 3, although we’re just not sure how that would work on something the size and shape of an earbud.
In typical Apple fashion, it’s said that the new AirPods will increase in price to $199. MySmartPrice also quoted a price for the Apple’s upcoming AirPower charging mat, citing a retail value of $149, and claimed that the mat will be thicker than had been previously expected in an attempt to find room for the coil configuration needed to make it charge anything, no matter where it is placed on the mat’s surface.
The most interesting part of the AirPods rumor is the fact that we will finally get a black color this time around, but as with the rest of this report, we’ll believe it when we see it.
Hopefully, that won’t be too far away, with an Apple event lightly rumored for next month.
