Geekbench is becoming a great source of leaks these days and we recently told you about what appears to have been a leak of a new iPhone following the discovery of Geekbench results relating to an as-yet unreleased device.
Now we have what could be a new MacBook Pro appearing in the benchmark app’s results, dubbed the MacBookPro15,2.
Based on the results found in Geekbench, it appears that this new 2018 machine packs an Intel Core i7-8559U Coffee Lake CPU that runs at 28W and is yet to appear in any shipping product. This means that it would very much bring the MacBook Pro up to speed in the CPU world and with a 2.7GHz quad-core chip that can turbo up to 4.5GHz, it’s likely that this machine will be no slouch. Add in the 8MB of L3 cache and this would be a solid MacBook Pro upgrade.
A 2018 refresh of the MacBook Pro is certainly due and has been rumored to be on the cards for months now. Some had suggested that WWDC would herald the arrival of new notebooks, something that ended up not happening, and others had suggested that a new keyboard could be in the works for any new MacBook Pro update.
Also worth noting here is that the MacBookPro15,2 identifier appears to suggest that this is a 13-inch notebook. If this is the case, then the current model from the same line uses a dual-core Intel chip and is capable of around 4600 in single-core and 9500 in multi-core results. This unannounced model, if indeed it is a real MacBook Pro, offers a big upgrade in numbers when it comes to multi-core results thanks to a 16,607 outcome. Single-core results are largely the same, however.
Importantly, we need to remember that Geekbench scores can be easily faked so this is by no means a guarantee that this device exists. That being said however, we know a MacBook Pro upgrade is due, so who knows. We know we’d be happy with this machine if it is indeed coming to market.
