Here’s a 12W Apple USB charger for iPad Vs 5W charger for iPhone head-to-head speed test to see how much the former is faster than later when charging an iPhone.
If you are heavily invested in Apple’s ecosystem, by which we mean owning multiple devices and using multiple Apple services and platforms, then the chances are that you not only own an iPhone, but also have an iPad, a Mac and use things like iCloud to manage your day-to-day existence.
If you are an iPhone and iPad owner, have you ever found yourself in a position of having no charge in your device whatsoever and wondering whether or not the 12A iPad charger would get you up and running at full capacity quicker than the 5A charger commonly bundled with the iPhone? If you have, you aren’t alone.
Anyone who has ever tried to charge an iPad using one of Apple’s iPhone chargers will have found that it literally takes an eternity to get the iPad up and running with a full charge. In fact, you may even find yourself in a situation where using an iPad that is on charge with an iPhone charger will actually deplete power faster than the device can take it on via that 5A connection.
But what about the reverse? If you want an iPhone up to 100% capacity in as short amount as time as possible, will the iPad charger get you there quicker? Yes it will, as we have reported before, but a new video now shows exactly how much faster can an iPad charger charge your iPhone.
The underlying theory here is that the iPad charger is capable of drawing more power than the dedicated iPhone charger, and that it should therefore be able to charge an iPhone from 0% to 100% a lot quicker than the standard charger. Of course, if that’s the case, then it means we should all be running about with our iPhones fully charged with a lot more time on our hands to invest in other areas of our lives.
As you can tell from the included video, an iPad charger does indeed deliver charge to an iPhone quicker, but typically only 5% faster. With two iPhone 6s devices, both on 0% charge, the test was carried out using a 5W iPhone charger and a 12W iPad charger to see which devices gets to the holy grail of 100% quickest.
As you will see, the iPad charger took the iPhone to the promised-land 13 minutes faster than the standard charger. An improvement, but definitely not a redefining experience that will make us all scramble for that charger when our devices die. Well, that’s just our opinion, you should check out the video below and see if it mimics any of your experiments with the iPad charger.
