Apple’s Back to the Mac event is ending on a high note: an all-new updated MacBook Air has been announced.
The new Air product line will, much like the iPad, have “instant on” access, longer battery life, amazing standby time, magical solid state storage (hard drives be gone!) along with the usual act of making everything thinner and lighter. There will be no optical drive.
It’ll be of unibody construction. In the specifications department, you get a C2D processor along with Nvidia GeForce 320M GPU, multitouch trackpad, FaceTime camera and a 1440×900 13.3” LED backlit display and it weighs only 2.9 pounds.
What surprised us though is that the Air has a little brother too: a 1366×768 11.6” one, to be precise. It will have a slower C2D processor, smaller battery life and and weigh 2.3 pounds.
Both will be available starting today. Pricing, processor and capacity are given below:
- 11.6-inch, 1.4Ghz, 64GB for $999
- 11.6-inch, 1.4Ghz, 128GB for $1199
- 13.3-inch, 1.86Ghz, 128GB for $1299
- 13.3-inch, 1.86Ghz, 256GB for $1599
Jobs started with "What would happen is a Mac met an iPad?"
From what I’ve learned, when a laptop meets a tablet, you get a netbook. So, dear readers, this is really the announcement of an Apple netbook, at least in terms of design. (it’s still uber-expensive) [via Engadget]
