A new entry to Google’s Nexus range always seems to make an impression in tech circles, and with the Nexus 4 smartphone cutting a rather antiquated figure, Android fans are anxiously awaiting its successor. The device set to take its place is the Nexus 5, and according to a new report, the handset could be announced next month, on October 14th.
The device, which will be manufactured by Korean outfit LG, will be the first to rock Android 4.4 KitKat, and with the chocolatey new version of the search giant’s mobile OS having just been officially announced, anticipation for its release, along with the new Nexus smartphone, is as high as ever.
Ausdroid seems to reckon October 14th will indeed be the date, but with nothing solid to back its claim up, we’ll keep the confetti and champagne on hold for now. Still, with the new iPhone and Galaxy Note having been announced, we need something to look forward to, and with some neat looking renders of the Nexus 5 having surfaced just last week, October 14th seems an awfully long time to wait.
Android KitKat 4.4 will likely be a relatively rudimentary update, but while it’s now official and with competitions rolling to promote it, we don’t really know as yet what it will include. Android 4.3, which itself has only been around a matter of weeks, wasn’t really anything to write home about, but even if we don’t see any major features with the next update, it will certainly offer an improved general user experience in one way or another.
According to Ausdroid, it will include plenty, with features including firmware availability to older phones, fragmentation tweaks and neww notification widgets, among other such alterations.
As we learn more of Android 4.4, we will of course update you, and should we hear any significant gossip regarding the Nexus 5 smartphone, you’ll hear it first here at Redmond Pie.
