According to a press release posted just a few minutes ago, the iPhone 4S is Apple’s most successful iPhone launch ever as over 1,000,000 units of the upcoming smartphone were pre-ordered in the first 24 hours alone.
The news comes straight from Apple, Inc. in a press release published on their official website just moments ago. Having been pre-ordered over a million times in the first 24 hours means that the iPhone 4S has broken the previous pre-order record of 600,000 which was held by the company’s own iPhone 4.
From Apple:
iPhone 4S Pre-Orders Top One Million in First 24 Hours
CUPERTINO, California—October 10, 2011—Apple® today announced pre-orders of its iPhone® 4S have topped one million in a single day, surpassing the previous single day pre-order record of 600,000 held by iPhone 4.
For the uninitiated, the iPhone 4S was announced at the Let’s Talk iPhone event which was held at Apple Town Hall in the company’s own campus in Cupertino, California. The iPhone 4S comes with a powerful dual-core chip, best-in-class optics and an amazing voice recognition feature called Siri which we’ve talked about in detail in our post on iPhone 4S features and specifications.
We had a little poll conducted on our Facebook page where our readers were asked if they would be getting the iPhone 4S. Most people answered that they would be waiting for the iPhone 5’s release and it appeared as if the iPhone 4S wouldn’t be as much of a hit as the iPhone 4 was back in 2010. As it turns out, the general public is going nuts over the iPhone 4S: over a million pre-orders in one day? That’s unheard of!
The iPhone 4S is available in three models based on internal memory: 16GB ($199), 32GB ($299) and, yes, even a 64GB ($399) model is available. The prices are given in brackets. All three models come with a two-year contract from one of three national wireless carriers: AT&T, Verizon and, for the first time, Sprint. You can order the iPhone 4S in white or black color.
Sprint is the only wireless carrier which has an option for unlimited data plan which is, I’m sure, a lot of people would like on such a powerful smartphone. As the iPhone 4S comes with HSDPA connectivity, so you could, theoretically, get up to 14.4mbps (down) on supported networks like AT&T (the company is trying to get Apple to allow 4G branding).
You can pre-order iPhone 4S right now but, since Apple is out of its US pre-order allotment, you’ll get the iPhone 4S about 1-2 weeks late than those who pre-ordered it first.
